Artist's Description
This painting depicts a vibrant scene of a shrimp boat just outside Hill's Restaurant at Pier 19 in Galveston, Texas. I tried to captured the bustling atmosphere of the docks, with the boat moored at the pier with the fisherman busy tending to his work. The boat’s weathered hull and crowded deck painted in whites and reds that have seen better days. The shrimp tackle and buckets crowd the deck and the net is pulled up high.
The overall mood of the painting is one of lively activity and contentment. I’ve used a bright, sun-drenched palette, with gentle reflections and loose brushstrokes to convey a sense of fond recollection and nostalgia. The scene is imbued with a sense of familiarity and comfort, reflecting water like reflecting memories from the past.

I remember like it was yesterday... The little black box of PRANG watercolors I received at Christmas when I was seven started me on a lifelong love of drawing and painting. Rendering the images of every comic book character from Mickey Mouse to Superman and Little Lulu furthered my art education. Little Golden Books, "The Color Kittens," taught me the basics of mixing colors. Then a magical experience happened! At the Jefferson Theater in downtown Beaumont, Texas (where I was born and raised), I saw Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Eagerly I awaited each new release through the years: Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Lady and the Tramp. At 12, I started an art notebook and bought my first oil paints. At 14,...
