Artist's Description
The year was 1972. The "hot" car era was soon to end. "Economy" names like Chevette, Pinto, and Gremlin were right around the corner...but not tonight!
This scene depicts Muscle Car Cruise Night at the College Street Pig Stand #49 in Beaumont, Texas. Front and center was the '72 Chevelle SS, which was already downgraded to a slightly "cooler" engine than previous years. Under the canopy was the '72 Ford Gran Torino. In the movie of the same name, Clint Eastwood tells a young man "You need just three things to get along in this world: Vise-Grips, Duct Tape, and WD-40!" In this painting, the fellow under the hood of the '57 Chevy panel truck could use some of each. I bought the old Kri-Pax Pie truck and painted the beach scene on the "flap," as well as the sign on the back. Another popular car located on the far right is a '67 Pontiac GTO.
Debuting that year on TV was M.A.S.H. See if you can find Corporal Radar O'Reilly and his Teddy Bear.

I remember like it was yesterday... The little black box of PRANG watercolors I received at Christmas when I was seven started me on a lifelong love of drawing and painting. Rendering the images of every comic book character from Mickey Mouse to Superman and Little Lulu furthered my art education. Little Golden Books, "The Color Kittens," taught me the basics of mixing colors. Then a magical experience happened! At the Jefferson Theater in downtown Beaumont, Texas (where I was born and raised), I saw Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
