Description
The Bolivar Lighthouse is a striking representation of maritime history and perseverance. Originally commissioned for Galveston Island in 1847, the location was later shifted to Bolivar Point, strategically positioned at the entrance of Galveston Bay. The current structure, a cast iron masterpiece, is the second lighthouse to grace the site. The first, unfortunately, was dismantled during the Civil War. Completed in 1872, the lighthouse has stood the test of time, serving as a sanctuary for those in need during the devastating hurricanes of 1900 and 1915. Standing at 116 feet above sea level, the lighthouse remains a powerful symbol of endurance, even though it is no longer in operation.
