Artist's Description
The Carnation Ice Cream Restaurant opened in Beaumont in 1948, located at the corner of 11th and Broadway (now the home of Beaumont Foot Specialists). The Carnation was an especially popular spot on Sunday evenings for more than twenty years.
This particular scene celebrates the fourth of July, 1953. The girl at the counter is feeding her boyfriend some "famous" banana split... and it only costs 35 cents!
We all have our special memories of the "old malt shop" and it was a great spot for that first date! Being on 11th Street, you could cruise from here to the College Street traffic circle in only a few minutes.

Malts, Sundaes, and my favorite, the famous Carnation Ice Cream Shop banana split. When doing the research for this nostalgic painting, the seventh in the "Moments to Remember" series, I heard about everybody's favorite malt shop meal or desert treat.
I wanted to also display the classic 40s-50s design of the glass block...

I remember like it was yesterday... The little black box of PRANG watercolors I received at Christmas when I was seven started me on a lifelong love of drawing and painting. Rendering the images of every comic book character from Mickey Mouse to Superman and Little Lulu furthered my art education. Little Golden Books, "The Color Kittens," taught me the basics of mixing colors. Then a magical experience happened! At the Jefferson Theater in downtown Beaumont, Texas (where I was born and raised), I saw Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Eagerly I awaited each new release through the years: Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Lady and the Tramp. At 12, I started an art notebook and bought my first oil paints. At 14,...
