An abandoned oil field hidden deep in the Big Thicket depicts the industrial landscape of an old oil pump and storage tanks set against the backdrop of the natural beauty of the forest, swamps, and wetlands of the region with a soft morning mist hiding the intrusions of man. The painting shows the contrast between the man-made structures of the oil field and the lush, verdant landscape of the Big Thicket. Nature will eventually reclaim this field.

The artist chose to depict the scene in a realistic style, with detailed renderings of the oil field equipment and the surrounding flora and fauna. The colors in the painting are muted and subdued, giving the scene a sense of the natural beauty of the environment.
